New Indie Music with a Touch of Electro

You will have heard teasers of this genre, set for explosion, within the more superior indie and pop songs of 2009. If you liked it, get to know names like:

• Free energy - inspired by late 1970s-early 1980s superior rock, they'll give you the type of song you'd go on a road trip to. Think Ac/Dc, and Thin Lizzy
• Two Door Cinema Club - a young new indie pop music trio who've toured with well known names like The Wombats
• French Horn Rebellion - a great new electro-pop threesome featuring two brothers from Milwaukee, who've managed all things from recording to releasing themselves
• Wild Beasts - they've been compared to the brilliant Maccabees and already raved about for their crazy and playful sounds, plus they're marvelous live.
• Delphic - from Manchester in the Uk, these guys have already had numerous apPearances in top festivals and on Tv. And they deserve it - creating sounds you can play over and over again, Delphic legitimately stand out amongst the genre.

Indie Music Pop Folk - A New Genre

Again, more 'traditional' folk styles were even creeping into mainstream music in 2009, but is set to feature heavily throughout new indie music pop and some rock in 2010 and beyond. Hurry up and and get listening to these citizen for great new indie pop music with folky undertones:

• Owen Pallett - previously going by the name Final Fantasy, Owen Pallett is a composer, a violinist, a singer, and an all-round great artist when it comes to fusing folk music with new indie pop music sounds
• Dan Mangan - Itunes named this guy "Best New Artist" in 2009, and now Vancouver's latest and favourite indie folk-rock artist is going global - we can't get enough of his music.
• Vandaveer - Check out the song Marianne, You've Done It Now. A great song on a great album, inspired by Dylan (who you'll probably agree is one of the unofficial founders of new indie music!)
• Twilight Hotel - a Canadian duo producing absorbing and discrete new indie pop music within their genre. From the slower songs to the more fast paced vibrant tracks, don't miss their stuff.
• Lindsey Thompson - more of a polite sound, Lindsey's clear vocals blend perfectly with soft melodies, and her lyrics complement her style perfectly.

New Indie Pop Rock and Punk

If the slower paces of new indie pop music don't apPeal, or your love for indie music stems from straight up punk rock, metal, and rock and roll, make sure you keep an eye on these bands: Screaming Females - although there's legitimately only one Female in the band, these guys can deliver a brilliant performance consisting of passionate wailing and Jimi Hendrix inspired guitar playing

• Dinosaur Feathers - you'll assuredly find something unique and lovable in new indie music if you listen to Dinosaur feathers, a trio who naturally love experimenting with sound.
• Evan Voytas - a young singer/songwriter from Pennsylvania, this multi-instrumental solo artist has perfected out an Ep of rich and superior songs.
• Internet Forever - female lead new indie music with small rock undertones, this trio is probably the 'gentlest' choice of the list - check out their particular 'Cover The Walls'.

Painting is something I have done all my life from the age of 4, when my parents handed me some crayons and some paper and encouraged me to draw. I remember how I loved it even then. Here are my tips for any aspiring artist.

Step 1 - Be Passionate!

This passion from such a young age meant I found that I was able to paint and draw from life and get my proportions and perspective very accurate.

Step 2 - Practice, Practice, Practice!

I would paint and draw whatever and all things on a daily basis. I saw it as fun, but it meant that I was able to hone my skills as the months went by. As a succeed I won my first commission at 15, and went on to make a living from painting as soon as I left school.

Step 3 - Get to know your branch as much as possible

I like to categorically spend time insight the temperament and individual nature of each person or animal that I paint. Once this is captured, the painting just flows. I speculate the psychology of my clients first, which then allows me to portray the inner attractiveness of their personality. I am inspired to capture the moments that allow them to re-live magic memories for years to come. I love receiving phone calls from my clients telling me how they are still moved by a commission, often many years after completion.

Step 4 - Dream Big

Be fascinated by the magic that life has to offer, especially about synchronicity. As Donald Trump once said 'If you are going to dream, you might as well dream big'. Thrive on proving that you can, when others cast doubt.

Step 5 - Model the Masters

Read books about the Masters. Study their work, Visit as many galleries as you can and get inspired. In your imagination ask for the great Masters advice, and await an answer. I told my parents that I was going to be a sublime artist from the age of 5, and acted 'as if', and in my mind I continue to stretch the boundaries of my success.

Step 6 - Visualise

At the age of 15, I was an fulfilled, Event rider, and devoured many books on the subject. My 'bible' however was one book which taught visualisation techniques, how to win a desired outcome, and how to focus on the positive. Any of these techniques I subsequently used to gigantic success in many areas. In fact I was one of the few riders that never fell from her horse, due to a focusing technique taught in the book!

I once had the task of teaching a team of four eleven year olds on some distinctly untalented ponies. For seven whole days leading up to the event, I worked full time with my group of young charges. While the week the team changed theirs and their ponies' names to adopt the names of some of the world class riders and horses of the day. As they modeled these people they amazed themselves with their new found abilities, and shocked their parents when the team took first prize in the competition.

I have subsequently used visualisation techniques in my artistic life, usually following the examples of painters such as Sargent, Velasquez, Munnings, Constable, and Michelangelo, when I paint. The results are incredible, but it does take practice, and an open mind.

Step 7 - Broaden Your Horizons

When I was 18, I remember constantly dreaming about what it meant to be a true artist, living in Italy, and being part of a group of breathtaking painters leading a bohemian and magical lifestyle, traveling the world painting. Within 18 months this had come to be a reality, even more than I had ever dreamed. I won the chance to paint at the Charles Cecil school in Florence. I soaked up all things I could possibly learn and within 6 months, ended up as one of the teachers. I would suggest whatever to do some travelling and spent time in Italy, France or India or for that matter in any place that inspires you.

Step 8 - Welcome the chance to overcome challenges and problems.

Let's be straight here. Life isn't plain sailing, and no job or career isn't without its challenges (even if you're the most passionate person in the world). While my early 30's I painted the Philosopher. It was at a time that other parts of her life were experiencing challenges that I did not understand. I felt that I was losing my identity, and yet produced probably one of my best pieces, which at the time was called 'Me, Myself and I' I was on the verge of a nervous breakdown and had to deal with all of the problems that came with depression. On the canvas seemed the only place where I knew who I was, and in fact often I used to say 'reality does not exist... Except on the canvas'. It took Any years to conduct my condition, and finally turned to anti-depressants, which I gave up after attending a Tony Robbins seminar.

Later in my life I discovered that the lead paints I had been using for years were poisoning me and that my health had been severely compromised. I had to go on a major detoxification regime, turn my diet dramatically, and started focusing on my health. The turnaround took some time, but I am now healthier and happier than I have ever been, and this continues to this very day. I don't regret those days though as they have helped me grow and come to be the person that I am. One day you may have painters block (I get it regularly!), but this is just an additional one chance to push straight through your comfort zone and break straight through to a whole new level. Sometimes you just have to take the day off and go do something else to inspire you.

Step 9 - Build Rapport with Your Clients

All my modern projects have brought home just how much I use psychology in my everyday life, especially my rapport skills in gaining not only a strong insight into the characters of my clients, but helping them to enunciate a pose showing them at their higher self. Often, when they see the fulfilled, succeed it can be quite emotional as they join together with the reflection of themselves.

Step 10 - Enjoy the Process

Remember that what you strive for everyday, is never quite as much fun as the journey there. Each day take time out to reflect on what has been great that day and what you have learned. Cultivate a Cani attitude - Constant and Never -ending Improvement!

The Enneagram Series - Personality Type 4 - The Artist

Triad: Type 4 is a variant of the core type of the Heart Triad, with Type 3 being the core type.

Core Belief: Others in the world have something that I do not. What is wrong with me?

With this core belief, the Four's focus of concentration is on either they are proper or rejected. This operates below the level of conscious awareness and underlies all that they do.

Whilst Twos learned to get love by giving and Threes learned to earn respect by their achievements, Fours learned to feel proper by being unique and authentic. With this focus, Fours become creative citizen who need to express their uniqueness. They are drawn to the arts, drama and other forms of self expression. You can also find them in jobs which want new or unique solutions.
Fours are warm and kind people, very in touch with their own feelings and able to feel what others are feeling too. Fours are refined citizen with an interest in aesthetics and quality.

Threes will seek to fit into a crowd and will Dress accordingly. Fours will do anything to stand out from the crowd and will Dress to do this. You can often spot a Four in a crowd by their unique Dress sense.

This drive to be unique can become the Fours blind spot in that they institute a great fear of being ordinary. Fours can become depressed, self conscious and withdrawn from the world as they feel the pain of being ordinary. The drive for uniqueness can be exhausting, and any way much they succeed, Fours can still feel there is something still wrong with them. This self absorption can make them stubborn and moody, where their concerns are over dramatised and they can attain a reputation of being a 'drama queen'. Fours feel all very deeply and are often saddened by life.

Fours, in their search for the meaning of life, to understand their feelings and to be understood, have been inspired to originate some of the many works of art, music, poetry and literature. They have poured their hearts into the creation of these unique masterpieces, sometimes to the extent that there was nothing left for them at the end, having expended all their deepest feelings in the act of creation.
